Roaring Lion : Different Than I Thought

A roar, or hot air?
We often hear the Scripture of satan being like roaring lion.
I thought it meant he wanted to gobble me up. 

1Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

I searched to see why lions roar.
"Roars are used to signal territoriality and to locate distant pride members. Both male and female lions demonstrate ownership of territories via roaring and are able to gauge the strength of opposition based on the number of roars heard from other groups." lionrecoverfund org
"Male lions roar to show their power. Leading males also use their roars to defend their territory, scaring off intruders." worldwildlife org

I checked the Greek word for "devour". It means to "swallow" ie. food or drink. 

This word is also used as "swallow" in : 

".. strain a gnat, and swallow a camel." Mat 23:24

".. Death is swallowed up in victory." 1Co 15:54

".. comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow." 2Co 2:7

".. which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned (swallowed)." Heb 11:29

".. and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth." Rev 12:16

So 1 Peter is the only place it says "devour". 

Without over expounding, it is better to observe satan as a 'swallower' instead of a 'devourer'.  This harmonizes better with the parable Jesus shares about the sower of the seed on rocks, soil, etc.. Luke 8 5-15. The 'seed' is the Word. The most satan can do is "roar" to act like his words are better than God's Words. Words of satan are just words.

God's Words lay dormant also; Except with God, only He is able to quicken His Own Words to make them come alive for someone. That is called personal revelation of something already written.

All satan can do is "roar" with his own words - which God will never quicken because they cannot be quickened - thus, they can never come alive. They can only hinder.
Or as it is often said, "He's just a bag of hot air."

Think about it, the Jews didn't kill Jesus. He just allowed Rome to kill him - but remember, only because he let them.  But after that, it was the Jews killing the ones that were called "Christians".  It was later that they were called Christians, a term which could put them in a box. I Never Capitalize satan

The Bible is very clear that God made both good and that which is evil. God Himself is not evil, but he made the scenario - on purpose - that would let 'evil' manifest. "Thus G‑d created a world in which goodness and evil are equal options, and He created humanity with the freedom to choose."
